Goodrem - in her first major acting role since 2005'sHating Alison Ashley(she had an extended cameo on Ten'sHouse Husbands last year) - called Newton-John one of her earliest influences.

"I grew up with Olivia's energy and beautiful voice in my world through her music, and then from an early age I was truly blessed to find friendship and mentorship from Olivia. I am deeply humbled to play my idol and friend,"she said in a statement.

The series, produced by Seven and Fremantle Media and filmed in Victoria,is Seven's latest jab at a contemporary biopic, following TV films on INXS and Molly Meldrum.

The network will be hoping for a better response than it received to last year’sHoges:The Paul Hogan Story, which earned disastrous reviews and poor ratings.

Olivia - or its mouthier titleOlivia Newton-John:Hopelessly Devoted To You - is set to air after Seven's coverage of the Commonwealth Games ends in mid-April.
