Vio's Ristorante Italiano inhabits the quieter edge of Paddington's Iceworks. The precinct's rather brash street presence harmonises into Vio's modern interior,where pressed metal,cool terrazzo and warm wood are touched with ribbons of red neon. Vio Nedianu's menu is less avant garde than the fitout but still enjoyable. Tiny zucchini flowers,stuffed with goat's curd and dipped in beer batter before being fried to a crisp,make generous antipasti. Pastas and risottos are equally ample and travel a wide,if still traditional,register:go for the pasta al forno if you're feeling downright nostalgic;plunge into the fire on angels'wings with the fidellini and its seafood,tomato and chilli sauce;or nestle into the wooded notes of carnaroli,mushrooms,chicken and cream. The somewhat short and staid dessert list consists old standards (or comfortingly familiar friends depending on your tastes) such as panna cotta,lemon tart and gelati. Consider rounding off the Italian experience with a glass of Venetian passito instead.
