The gentrification of King’s Cross continues apace,but Teddy,tucked into a character-filled corner site on a shady backstreet,taps just a little of the spirit of the past.
The look-at-me courtyard and vibrant,burgundy-hued rooms channel the area’s heyday,and the vibe continues with the playlist – Pointer Sisters,Prince,Whitney,Depeche Mode – and a menu of snacky drinking food.
Vermouth-marinated olives and a colourful cocktail to begin,perhaps,followed by a pork and lobster sausage roll served in a Barbie-pink paper bag. Curls of pasta in cacio e pepe sauce spiked with native pepperberry are oven-baked until crunchy,and a crusty pork schnitzel is good to share.
Run by Kirk and Nick Mathews Bowden of next-door Ezra on an “affordable,accessible,approachable” ticket,it’s the sort of place you could,potentially,end up dancing.
