Sport rules at this smart country-style pub not far from Newcastle's sandy beaches:you can even see the sport screens in the front bar and TAB while enjoying a meal or drink in the rear dining area. There's plenty to like,with several beers on tap and a strong leaning towards NSW and Hunter Valley wines. The menu is contemporary,catering for vegetarians and fish lovers as well as offering two steaks - a yearling scotch fillet with tiger prawns in a garlic cream sauce and a 350-gram Riverina private selection rump. The salt-and-pepper squid on a Mediterranean salad gets a big thumbs-up for a light lunch.
