It’s easy to be distracted at Bathers’. With a glass in hand, the uninterrupted vista of beach, harbour and heads is prime for people-watching or simply daydreaming. But there’s an attractive menu to distract you, even momentarily. Turn your attention to an entree of sliced veal breast with quail eggs, kimchi and puffed quinoa. Bold flavours, skilfully balanced, make for an impressive start. Well known to the well-heeled,service is knowledgeable but appropriately discreet. John Dory is precisely pan-roasted and appropriately paired with enoki mushrooms and surf clams. The ladies who lunch linger over dessert, but who can blame them? As the name suggests,a mascarpone ingot looks like edible gold bullion, but tastes like an elegant tiramisu. While the furnishings have seen some wear and tear,15 years on,The Bathers’ Pavilion proves that charm is timeless.

And … It goes without saying. Book a table by the window.
