Warung Ita

Indonesian

How lucky that Sydneysiders can just zip down Old Canterbury Road and hang a right at Haldon for colourful Padang-style (West Sumatran) street food. It's niche cuisine in this town, but the flavours are made for Aussies raised eating spice and rice. The cafe comprises a few formica tables and friendly women operating a bain-marie stuffed with chilli-eggplant rounds, beef rendang, chicken wings, jackfruit curry and a dried anchovy and hot-peanut mix (ikan bilis) that would be perfect with an Asian-style beer. As this is a no-alcohol halal restaurant, that won't be happening,so take home a container for your next barbie. A'bit of everything'plate can be shared between two people.
