The result leaves Australia with one point and Denmark with four. The Socceroos will need to beat Peru in their final game and hope that other results go their way.
Both teams had chances to win the game in a pulsating second half in which Aaron Mooy and Tom Rogic threatened for Australia and Pione Sisto went close for Denmark.
Mathew Leckie drove forward on numerous occasions, hustling and running at the Danish defence while youngster Daniel Arzani was thrown into the fray in the final 20 minutes as the Australians tried to force the win.
Both Leckie and Arzani were denied by flying saves from Danish keeper Kasper Schmeichel in the dying minutes.
The Danes began brightly and took the game to Australia right from the start, pushing forward in numbers, getting the ball wide and slinging in crosses for their tall forward line to put pressure on the Australian goal.
Twice in the space of the opening minutes did the Danes threaten from set pieces,as Australia were pushed on to the back foot.
