The Sutherland Shire is the perfect home for a new centre of education.Credit:Jonathan Chancellor
Instead,we have the spectacle of Sydney University treating the Ramsay Centre as if it has trodden something unmentionable into the Vice-Chancellor’s carpet simply for suggesting ways the curriculum could be improved. The cheek!
Ramsay operatives should be given free rein, and not face carping and whinging from a petty,ill-educated rabble of povo-school Trots. If Sydney’s not interested, let me suggest another way to build the Ramsay vision.
It strikes me that the provision of quality,Western civilisation-style higher education has been overlooked when it comes to the Shire. This vast area, home to more than 200,000 hardworking Australians, suffers from neglect similar to that which afflicts Western civilisation in our universities:simply put, they wouldn’t know it if either one was up them in a double-decker bus.
Yet the Shire is a major cultural centre,as the Cronulla School of Arts and the fondly-remembered rainbow fountain at Miranda Fair amply demonstrate. It is time this latent resource was recognised with a full-throttle tertiary facility which has Western and Shire civilisational excellence at its core.

If our other limp-wristed,pinko unis won’t give Western civilisation a go,the Shire will. I suggest the Ramsay billions would be best employed setting up a completely new institution, the Shire University of Western Civilisation Excellence.
Needless to say given its focus, such an august foundation would be most appropriately located in the Shire’s western lands, somewhere between Yowie Bay and the Lucas Heights nuclear reactor, thus preserving Cronulla,Sylvania Waters and Kurnell, the area’s backward oriental regions,in their pristine state for anthropological field work.
