He has been charged with assault, obstructing police and wilful damage. He was due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday and will spend the weekend in custody.

The Crime and Corruption Commission confirmed that Mr Smith's arrest was not related to their ongoing investigation.

"The CCC has not arrested any person today relating to its ongoing corruption investigation into Logan City Council,"the state's crime and corruption watchdog said in a statement.

"As the CCC’s investigation remains ongoing,it not appropriate to comment further."

Mr Smith was charged by the CCC in March for corruption and perjury.

A Logan City Council spokesman declined to comment in relation to Mr Smith's arrest.

In March,Mr Smith was charged with official corruption, failing to correct his council register of interests and two counts of perjury.
