Fairfax Media has contacted Barber and Tom Ford's representatives for comment.

Speaking of sex, earlier in the evening,Ford opened fashion's month-long orgy of glamour that takes in fashion weeks across New York,London,Paris and Milan.

There were celebrities (Cardi B,Hailee Steinfeld,Paris Jackson and Tom Hanks,to name a few),mega-models (Kaia Gerber,Joan Smalls) and even a sneaky debut of a new Lady Gaga track, three weeks before its official release.

And then there were the clothes.

Croc-effect leather jackets in mauves and blacks, bandage dresses, fluid trenches and the return of white as a dominant summer neutral carried an overall vibe of subtle sexiness that's a hallmark of the Tom Ford name.

Three things that caught the eye as bound to translate into wider trends this season:

1. The headscarf over bun

The hairstyle that featured on many models in the show is a short-priced favourite to appear at the spring carnival, with or without a hat perched on top.

2. The pointy,pointy shoe

Tom Ford has always loved a pointed stiletto but after years of the Balenciaga knife point being the fashion set's go-to shoe,Ford's double-buckled style, with metal toe caps,is already shaping up as the hot shoe of 2019.

3. The one-armed jacket

One of the bolder pieces on the runway was a tailored jacket with one sleeve, leaving the other half to resemble a waistcoat. It's been done (some say to death) with the evening dress but this was a new silhouette that could catch on.

Also looking on approvingly wasVogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who surrounded herself with Hanks, his wife Rita Wilson, andCrazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding.

But down the other end of the runway, taking court was legendary fashion editor Andre Leon Talley, who stars in a recent biopicThe Gospel According to Andre.

Dressed in one of his signature capes,in a regal silver befitting the occasion,Talley gave approving nods and smiles as the cast of top models walked the carpeted runway.

After the show,as the crowd dispersed,Talley remained in situ, receiving friends and fans. After all, there was no rush to return to the sticky New York night air. It's going to be a long month, after all.
