Lewis,32,said there had been no fall out from the dramatic events which ended his contribution of 264 games over 12 seasons at Waverley.

"Not at all. I don't really care about that sort of stuff - the captaincy of the club,or anything like that. I just want the ultimate success which is premierships. As you get older, they become more significant. That's where I am,"he said.

"I am a person that moves on,whether it be anything from yesterday that I didn't like,I just move on and enjoy the challenge that it will be."

Lewis is now more than happy at Melbourne, having imparted his finals wisdom on a young, emerging side threatening to morph into a power club over the next five years.

He has twice faced his former club, losing by three points in round seven last year, when he had 30 touches and two goals, and by 67 points in round four this year, when he was held to 14 touches. This time the stakes are greater, and he knows how the Hawks, led by great mate Jarryd Roughead, will be feeling after their 31-point loss to Richmond in their qualifying final.

"We have played them this year and last year as well but there is more significance on this game,I would imagine. They would be reeling after the loss to Richmond. You always want to play well in finals and win finals,(it's) backs against the wall for them - we expect a different Hawthorn side to come out this week,"he said.

The Hawks have inflicted great pain on the Demons over the past decade - winning 15 of their past 16 matches (the Demons'only win being in round 20,2016) - but they face a major fight to add to that record after the Demons ran over Geelong by 29 points in an elimination final.

Lewis was one of the best afield, having 24 touches across half-back and helping to control the tempo.

"It's probably got more coverage than any of my other games but I think I have been really solid down there for the most part of the year. On the weekend,it was nice. It's good when there is pressure up the field so you can position yourself accordingly - just nice to play my bit,"he said.

"I just want to keep going to be honest and keep this Melbourne side going, give the fans something to enjoy. That's what we saw on Friday night - they were there in huge numbers. The players really fed off that."
