The former Socceroos assistant was appointed as the interim head coach of the Matildas in February after the abrupt sacking of Alen Stajcic. After just four friendly games in charge,FFA moved quickly to secure the services of Milici, whose contract was set to expire in July at the end of the 2019 Women's World Cup in France.

“The continuity this will foster can only benefit the belief and preparation leading into the Women’s World Cup campaign in France, but more importantly I think it demonstrates the deep belief that I have in this special group of players,"Milicic said.

“Personally,I want to join the players on this journey. I know that I can help them achieve something special for themselves not only individually, but for this team and for Australian football."

Milicic is based in Croatia but will return to Sydney next week ahead of the squad announcement for the World Cup which is set to be made on May 19. The Matildas will play the Netherlands in a pre-tournament friendly in Eindhoven on June 1 and are set to announce another warm-up match.
