After coming under heavy criticism for the lack of clarity around Stajcic’s removal and its abrupt timing,as well as misguided accusations of misconduct from a director, senior sources within FFA suggest the board has warmed to seeking independent help in its review of the organisation’s procedures and management.
It followsheavy criticism from media personality and former Socceroo,Craig Foster, who slammed FFA for its handling of what he described as one of the most ‘‘opaque, damaging decisions on a variety of levels’’.
The board is understood to remain firm that its decision to terminate the contract of Stajcic in January was correct. However, the board is said to be bemused by the processes in place that culminated in the coach’s termination.

The terms of reference around the review are yet to be finalised. However, the five-person FFA board is said to be unanimous in seeking independent assistance in a review that will put the performance of FFA senior management under the microscope.
Notably, the roles the roles of chief executive David Gallop, head of national teams Luke Casserly and head of women’s football Emma Highwood will be scrutinised. Former company secretary Jo Setright was heavily involved in the decision to terminate Stajcic’s contract but left FFA in April.
It’s likely the review will centre around the systemic handling of issues around the team culture which first simmered to the surface almost nine months before Stajcic was sacked.
