Ms Liu appeared on Sky News to respond to allegations raised by the ABC that she was formerly a member of groups linked to the Chinese Communist Party's United Front Work Department - a chief propaganda arm of Beijing.
She said she could not remember being a council member of the Guangdong provincial chapter of the China Overseas Exchange Association between 2003 and 2015.
At that time, the association was an arm of the Chinese government's central political and administrative body.
"If I can't recall,I can't be an active member of that council can I?"Ms Liu said.
When asked why she could not remember,Ms Liu replied:"I have never been a member, they can put your name there without your knowledge."
The Hong Kong-born MP,elected to the Victorian seat of Chisholm in May,has faced a string of allegations over her potential links to the Chinese government, including revelations the Victorian Liberal Party was made to return more than $300,000 from fundraising auctions in 2015 because of security concerns over the successful bidders she had invited.
