Police received a call to remove about 20 protesters but upon arrival,officers found four men and two women locked to metal fencing in the middle of the road.
A police spokesman told Brisbane Times officers had initially arrested seven people and searched for other protesters who fled the scene.
Six people were taken to the Brisbane City Watchhouse and charged.
A spokeswoman for the Extinction Rebellion,Laura Harland,said the protesters used different devices to lock their necks to the barricades.
"We've been doing this[protesting] for a while now and nothing seems to be changing,"she said.
"We are in a climate crisis currently so Extinction Rebellion believes this kind of action is necessary to take."
