After a series of preliminary legal fights earlier this year,the full hearing in the Federal Court commenced on Monday.
Barrister Matt Collins,QC,for the ABC,told the court the broadcaster had a"long history"of reporting stories that"vested interests would rather not be told".
The raid was"nothing short of an intimidating attack on freedom of the press"that was"wholly disproportionate to what was at stake",Dr Collins said.

He said it sent a"sent a chilling message that there can be very grave consequences"for people exposing public malfeasance,corruption and other alleged wrongdoing to journalists.
"The warrant provided no protection at all to confidential sources,"Dr Collins said.
The federal police investigation related to a 2017 report calledThe Afghan Files,based on leaked defence documents,and the search warrant named ABC reporters Dan Oakes and Sam Clark,and news director Gaven Morris.
