The reality is Corica is only just getting started on what could be a very long and successful managerial journey, which will continue for at least another two years at the Sky Blues after the 46-year-old signed a fresh contract extension on Thursday.
It was an"easy decision",he said,to commit his future to a club that he has helped build over the course of 15 years. Corica has been there from day one,as a player for Pierre Littbarski at'Bling FC',and subsequently as an assistant and now head coach,he has shaped a sustained winning culture that is the envy of the A-League.
It's still early days,as he says, but Corica has Sydney on track for even more glory this season after eight wins from their first nine games.
The long-term plan is to cram as many pieces of silverware as possible into the club's trophy cabinet - then,at some point, follow in the footsteps of newly-crowed J.League winner Ange Postecoglou and try his luck abroad.
I love the challenge ... I like proving people wrong.
Steve Corica
"I want to stay here as long as possible, and to fulfil everything we can here first,"Corica told theHerald."It's similar to when I was a player - I wanted to play against the best players and that's in Europe.[Then] I wanted to play for the Socceroos.
"As a coach, you want to test yourself against the best managers and players. Definitely in the future I'd love to coach overseas.
