"Our emissions reductions policies will both protect our environment and seek to reduce the risk and hazard we are seeing today. At the same time,it will seek to make sure the viability of people's jobs and livelihoods,"he said during a press conference on Thursday.
Mr Morrison, who has faced criticism online and on talkback radio of his leadership during the crisis, acknowledged the"anxiety"and"stress"of people fleeing the fire zones and urged patience, assuring those affected that"help will arrive".
But he dismissed the idea that"a single policy, climate or otherwise"could completely insure against fires in Australia.
"My simple request is to be patient,to have confidence in the state agencies that are leading the operational response on the ground,"he told reporters in Commonwealth government offices in Sydney.
More than $21 million in disaster payments have been made to affected residents in NSW,and more would be made available to Victorians affected by the fires,he said.
The Australian Defence Force, which has already deployed assets in Victoria, stood ready to meet requests from the NSW government, which Mr Morrison said had not yet been made.
