According to witnesses,the car was stationary when the fire broke out before it rolled along Raven Street as the fire took hold.

As the car burned and Good Samaritans,including neighbours and nearby tradesmen,ran to help,Baxter died by suicide.

Emergency services raced to the scene about 8.30am on Wednesday,but there was little they could do.

The three children died in the blazing car,while Ms Clarke succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire on Wednesday night at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

"I've seen some horrific scenes,this is up there with ... them,"Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said on Wednesday.

Senior paramedic Adrian Tong described the scene as"confronting"and said all ambulance crews who attended were stood down from duty for at least the remainder of Wednesday.

Detectives are not searching for anyone else.

Investigators will provide all of their information to the coroner,who will compile a final report.

This story previously named the children's mother as Hannah Baxter. The Queensland Police Service has since informed media she had legally been using her maiden name ‘Clarke’ and no longer used her married name of Baxter.
