Transport Workers Union NSW secretary Richard Olsen said drivers were kept in confined spaces with limited ventilation and deserved to know how the government planned to protect them.
“Our bus driver members are telling us that they are receiving very little information about COVID-19 safety and feel they are in a vulnerable position as they continue to provide a valuable service for their communities,” Mr Olsen said.
“We are seeking action on prevention and safety in the transport industry from government as the number of coronavirus cases increase in NSW. Bus Drivers face a higher risk of being infected.”
As public transport workers sought answers over sick leave and workplace protection,a Transport for NSW taskforce was preparing for “various scenarios” on Sydney’s network.
TheHerald understands the government is in the process of planning how the network will respond to certain amounts of drivers and staff contract the coronavirus.
The coronavirus transport taskforce has been set up to manage incidents,a TfNSW spokeswoman said.
