Bookings at women-only ride startup Shebah are down as much as 35 per cent and co-founder George McEncroe said she had been forced to lay off three staff members and cut salaries by as much as 60 per cent in some cases.
Demand for bookings continued to be strong for those with disabilities and health care workers, however, with drivers continuing to log on for those important trips.
"Many of our drivers have survived breast cancer, divorce, family violence. Our drivers are highly attuned to the diabolical situation we are in,"Ms McEncroe said.
"We have suffered...but we have not had the loss in trip volume I had anticipated."
Rideshare giant Uber is also feeling the pain, with global chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi writing an open letter to President Donald Trump on Monday asking for more support for gig economy workers whose livelihoods had been affected by the situation.
Uber Australia would not comment on how trip volumes had been affected, though its Uber Pool service, where passengers share a ride with other passengers, has been shut down.
