The 27-year-old said the unexpected layoff time has given him the chance to think"what can I roll into after footy because I am not a bloke who wants to do nothing after footy".
"This is a really unique time in our lives and I guess most of the time I find myself thinking how am I going to play next week all week ... that is something I focus on week to week,"he said.
"You have to have something to tick over your mind and get yourself moving as well and for me that is fishing - or something in the outdoors -so I'm looking at areas like that and getting in touch with as many people as I can."
Cameron, who became part of the club's leadership group in 2020,indicated the decision was not just financial but as much about where it would take him in his life.
Even with the uncertainty surrounding the game's finances, the free agent is certain to attract interest from several clubs although the Giants remain confident they can retain him beyond this season.
