The journey of the Australian women’s team began humbly. In 1975,we participated in an Asian Football Confederation Women’s Championship. The matches were not recognised as official Australian international fixtures and it wasn’t until four years later,in 1979,that the first official international matches against New Zealand were played.
Throughout the entire 1980s,a miserly 20'A'Internationals were played. This underlined the lack of investment and respect afforded to the women’s team. From 1990 until the first Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2011,six World Cups and Olympic Games came and went. This was all for negligible remuneration, minimal recognition,sub-standard resourcing and oversized men’s playing strips.
