The highly rated Genreau has had spells with City and Dutch club PEC Zwolle, where he made 10 appearances in the Eredivisie in the 2018-19 season. However, game time in the A-League has been lean for the youngster since returning from the Netherlands. He has been restricted to four starts with City.
Macarthur regard Genreau as a bright prospect and signed him on one of the longer-term contracts in the competition.
"Denis is the type of player you can build a club around. Quality player on the pitch and virtuous young man off it. I have kept a close eye on his career so far and believe he will be a great fit for our club,"Macarthur coach Ante Milicic said.
Genreau joins Australian international Tommy Oar as the two confirmed Macarthur signings but the expansion club suggested it had already signed seven other players for their A-League debut in December.

The club has withheld the announcement of the majority of its signings until the players leave their current clubs,so as not to jeopardise their prospects of game time.
