John Blakey was recently appointed as a senior assistant coach but he was not expected to be promoted into senior coaching, nor to apply for the position.
“I am not making any comment on Paul Roos or anyone else,"Buckley said.
"We will establish our coaching panel. We have thought about coaching structure and we will get the best available person once we have gone through the process of who is available and what skills and capacity they have.“
Buckley said the club made a small profit this year and was as financially healthy as it had ever been. He added that talk of a relocation to Tasmania was wrong.
“We were one of the so-called assistance clubs but we came through the year without having to draw on the AFL’s line of credit,"Buckley said.
“There is a lot of misinformation about our financial position. We have never been stronger. We made a small surplus this year in what has been a very difficult year for everyone.”
He said the club would not be paying former coach Brad Scott’s contract into next year.
Buckley said the question of whether a change of senior coach would alter the position on forwardBen Brown remaining at the club, after the club encouraged him to explore his options elsewhere, was a matter for the list strategy committee.
Shaw said his passion for footy remained and he hoped to return to the game in the future.
"For now, however,my focus is on taking time out,and I would ask that my privacy, and that of my family, continue to be respected at this time."
Shaw took over as North's caretaker coach after Brad Scott left the club midway through 2019,and took over on a full time basis for the 2020 season.

While results and performances improved under Shaw in the back half of 2019,the side faltered in 2020,struggling in the hub environment and cruelled by injuries to key players.
“I'm immensely grateful to the North Melbourne Football Club for the opportunity it afforded me as senior coach, and want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the football department and club staff,as well as North's incredible members and supporters, who together, endured an extraordinarily challenging season,"Shaw said.
“Your contribution, commitment and dedication to this club was enormous, and I am deeply grateful.
“To the players – I will forever cherish the relationships we built and the stories we shared, and I'm grateful for the courage and belief you demonstrated along the journey."
