Noble, who grew up in Tasmania, will take over the reins of a team that finished 17th in 2020 but is confident they have a talented core of young players with the Kangaroos to have picks two and 11 in the upcoming national draft.

North Melbourne president Ben Buckley said the club was pleased to secure the experienced Noble.

"We were very clear on what we wanted in our next coach and we have found that in David. We are delighted to appoint him the 38th coach of our football club,"Buckley said.

"David has a profound knowledge of all areas of the football department and knows what it takes to win and set up clubs for success, having been part of no less than 13 AFL finals series throughout his impressive career so far.

"He is a great fit for our club and will complement our strategic direction. We are very confident he will lead our young side back up the ladder in the coming years."

He will take on the job with strong credentials having been general manager of football with Brisbane since late 2016,having held the same position with the Adelaide Crows from 2014,after working for the Crows initially as an assistant coach before becoming list manager. He had worked as an assistant coach with the Western Bulldogs for five years, before moving to be head coach of Glenelg in the SANFL for two years.

The experience has seen him work alongside coaches of the calibre of Terry Wallace,Neil Craig,Phil Walsh and Fagan.

Noble has also coached the NSW-ACT elite under team, the Rams, and was an assistant at the Oakleigh Chargers. He also started his senior coaching career when he took Upwey/Tecoma in Melbourne's eastern suburbs to two premierships

He also played two games with Fitzroy in 1991 after playing in two premierships with North Hobart.

His son John is a defender at Collingwood after being recruited from the SANFL in the 2019 mid-season draft.

The Kangaroos expect him to have an input in selecting two assistant coaches to join the existing coaching panel that includes John Blakey,Gavin Brown,Leigh Adams and Brent Harvey.

Giansiracusa, who was head-hunted by the Bombers to improve their relationships between players and coaches,is said to have made a strong impression in his presentation to the panel while Harvey presented as a strong candidate.

North's search panel consisted of Paul Roos,Rawlings, chief executive Ben Amarfio, board member and club great Glenn Archer, board member Sonja Hood and psychologist and leadership adviser Terry Coyne.

North had to appoint a coach well after the season after RhyceShaw stepped down as senior coach after only one full season in the position, due to personal reasons.
