NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance is bracing for a resurgence of patronage across the city’s network and has pleaded with the community to wear masks before the government opts to make it mandatory.
"It’s just vital as we see more people,particularly in the peak periods,start to return to workplaces and office spaces,"he said.
"We want people wearing masks,there’s not enough people doing it,and I’m pleading with the community to do it."
More green dots will be rolled out as trains have their capacity increased from 44 to 55 per cent in mid-December,while buses will jump from 38 to 45 per cent. Restrictions on ferries will be eased from 36 per cent to 51 per cent.
While mask use was sitting at between 30 and 40 per cent among commuters midway through the year,Mr Constancelast month saidit had more than halved in a matter of weeks.
A government source speaking on the condition of anonymity said on Wednesday it was dwindling to as low as 15 per cent in some parts of Sydney.
