Three vigilantes in a Holden Statesman hadallegedly followed a stolen Hyundai sedan “aggressively” before hitting it from behind, causing the driver of the Holden to lose control, cross the median strip and collide head-on with Ms Board.

A 17-year-old female passenger of the allegedly stolen Hyundai has now been charged with five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count of stealing.

She has been denied bail and was expected to appear in the Townsville Children’s Court on Monday. Police are still working to identify the other occupants of the Hyundai and are appealing for anyone with any information about the crash to come forward.

The 25-year-old Bushland Beach man behind the wheel of the Holden and two passengers – a 41-year-old Kirwan man and 22-year-old Aitkenvale woman – were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the crash.

Ms Board was unable to be revived at the scene. Hundreds of people gathered at a vigil in Townsville on Saturday afternoon, with flowers laid at the crash site and orange hearts flooding Ms Board’s social media accounts.

One school friend,Kira Ahyick, remembered Ms Board as “the brightest, happiest, kindest soul I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing”.

At the weekend,Superintendent Glen Pointing “very strongly cautioned” against vigilantism after the crash, which comes amid heightened attention to youth crime and justice in the state.

“Oftentimes, while people may have good intentions,it can result in unintended consequences,” he said.
