But,as with so many other bands,the pandemic laid waste to their plans. It also left the band’s eighth studio album stranded for a time when they didn’t quite know what to do with it.
“We decided to hold it for a little while,see what the landscape of music was going to take in general,touring and stuff,” says Followill.
“It gave us the chance to live with[the album] for a while. We could have gone back and made changes but we ended up not doing that,which was great. It’s kind of turned us into fans ourselves,listening to it as a fan basically.
“I think we all stepped away from it,from the honeymoon phase of making a record,when you love everything … but we all still love it,which is nice.”
Followill has been spending a lot of time at home. It’s an unusual experience. The band would have been touring during the previous American summer,playing festivals and filling stadiums.
“It’s normally a time when we would be doing promo for the upcoming record and travelling a lot,but it’s been a lot of time at home with the family.
