About 270 potential contacts of the doctor plus another 160 hospital staff and patients were identified at the weekend and 86 have been tested and returned negative results.

Most test results taken from staff and guests at the Grand Chancellor were expected to take “another couple of days”.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the state would know in the next 24 hours whether there had been evidence of community transmission after more test results came back.

Six new cases were confirmed in quarantine on Monday and none were at Hotel Grand Chancellor.

The hotel was put into lockdown on Sunday and stopped accepting more returned travellers.

Contact tracers have tracked down travellers and staff who might have been exposed and since left the hotel between March 5 and 9. They have been asked to isolate.

“There are 106 who have been released since March 9 and there will probably be a further 100 that have been released since March 5,” Dr Bennett said.

“Those who have not been released will have their stay extended,” she said.

“All staff are tested daily though saliva testing and we have had no positive cases in the staff,so that is very reassuring,but we will re-test all staff today.”
