The 135-year-old girls’ school in Sydney’s east boasts an old girls list including Macquarie chief executiveShemara Wikramanayake,Federal Court judgeBrigitte Markovic and philanthropist LadyPrimrose Potter. We assumed that covering the stonking school fees would be the toughest challenge parents face. But no.
Take these concerns about the school socks.
“Hi … are anybody else’s kids upset with the school socks? Mine are really sensitive to the hard bits at the end of the little toe,” one mother put to the thread known as the Ascham Parents Social Chat. “At first I thought my eldest was just too fussy, but now[she] is also really upset about them. It’s a hassle every morning.”
“Could you give the material a little snip so it’s not as bulky?” one replied. Another suggested buying a bigger size so little toes “[don’t] touch the hard bit”.
Elsewhere, one mother asked whether the kids were “old enough to not have to cut their cherry tomatoes and blueberries”? This question split the floor.
“Yes,” one mother responded. “Maybe just cut the cherry tomatoes.”
Another urged caution:“Perhaps see whether[your daughter] can safely manage at home before sending it in.”
CBD has chosen not to reveal the names of the parents, who include some serious political, racing and business heavyweights. The WhatsApp group has 100-or-so members and they don’t muck around. Especially when it comes to naming pets.
