The co-captain hand-balled a lot more than he kicked in the first half too,but watching the impact the likes of Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca had with their touches on Sunday was telling.

Cripps is a different player to Oliver and Petracca but he used to impact games like they did. For whatever reason,he isn’t this season despite his effort still being very high.

Dangerous Demons

At every line on the field Melbourne had players who caused a lot of trouble for Carlton. Lever and May were excellent down back,Charlie Spargo and Kysaiah Pickett were a constant threat forward.

Sam Weideman,Tom McDonald and Ben Brown played their first game together in the forward 50 and can only get better. When Luke Jackson is fit how do they all, plus Gawn, fit into the 22?

On Sunday Brown would go out, with Liam Jones too smart and strong for him when going body-to-body in contests.

Alex Neal-Bullen,Jayden Hunt and Ed Langdon were really creative, the first with his ball use and the second two with their run.
