Exposure sites drop below 200

Health authorities removed over 100 listings from Victoria’s official exposure site list on Tuesday

On Tuesday evening there were 197 locations listed, down from 314 at 9pm on Monday, when 18 new sites, including a city tram and several fast food outlets, were added.

Only one site was added on Tuesday,a tier-3 exposure for the vaccination hub at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. A person with COVID-19 attended the mass vaccination hub in South Wharf between 3.15pm and 4pm on June 7,according to an update on the Health Department’s list of exposure sites.

COVID-19 response chief Jeroen Weimar said the person had attended after going for a test, but was told to leave.

“They were directed to leave and go back to isolation immediately. For anybody who is a primary close contact or anybody who is a positive case, you must get tested, isolate and you cannot go to a vaccination centre. Vaccination centres are for people who are healthy, fit and eligible to get a vaccine.”

The tier-three category means people who were at the site at the same time as someone with COVID-19 need to isolate and test negative for the virus if they develop symptoms.

The additional sites can be viewed at the Department of Health’swebsite and have been added toThe Age’smap of official exposure sites.

Another case of COVID-19 was reported atNorth Melbourne Primary School on Monday. The Department of Health is investigating if the person was infectious when they attended the large state school.

The school has been closed since last Wednesday. Two grade 5 students,a prep student and a grade 5 teacher have tested positive to the Delta strain of the coronavirus.

Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said the virus had spread between the two grade 5 students, who were in the same classroom, then to their teacher, and among the students’ and teacher’s families.

The removal of outdated sites was flagged by Professor Sutton at Monday’s press conference when he announced that more than 1000 primary close contacts had been released from isolation after completing 14 days of isolation and a negative day-13 COVID-19 test.

The sharp drop in the number of exposure sites came after Australia’s medical regulator confirmed it was considering whether to allow children from the age of 12 to be vaccinated with Pfizer.
