“Tragically,there has been a death of a woman in her 50s who was a confirmed COVID-19 case,she was a resident in south-western Sydney and a close contact of a previous case,” Dr Chant said.
While she did not go into details of the case,Dr Chant said care and services were offered to the family.
Twelve of Tuesday’s cases remain under investigation. Of the 78 locally acquired cases reported,52 are from south-west Sydney,11 are from western Sydney,three are from Sydney,11 are from south-eastern Sydney,and one is from Illawarra-Shoalhaven.
There were 62,860 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm on Monday night,a drop compared to the previous day’s total of 75,845.
Ms Berejiklian said despite one-third of people infectious in the community,“green shoots are showing”.
“I’m confident that if we keep at it and if we keep focused on reducing our mobility and especially being conscious of workplaces ... we will start seeing hopefully more improvements,” she said.
NSW Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Warboys said police issued 160 fines in the past 24 hours,including seven infringement notices for a group of people who attended an office birthday party in Sydney’s CBD.
“Rest assured these[fines] are issued to people who have absolutely no regard for the health orders or safety in the public space,” Deputy Commissioner Worboys said.
“Police were walking along. They found a gentleman outside,a young man,he took them into an office suite where clearly there had been a party. Birthday cakes,alcoholic drinks and a person passed out on the floor.”
NSW Health also revealed a close contact exposure site more than 500 kilometres north of Sydney overnight,with anyone who visited the Hoey Moey Bottleshop in Coffs Harbour on Thursday,July 15,between 3.55pm to 4.10pm asked to get tested and isolate for 14 days regardless of the result.
The bottleshop is one of more than 20 new exposure sites listed on Monday night,with close contact locations including a petrol station in Padstow on Tuesday,July 6,and a supermarket in Fairfield on Saturday,July 17.
Others include an electronics store,spare car parts retailer and a telecommunications provider. The exposure windows are from last week –before the NSW government cracked down on non-essential retail.

Bus and train services were also added,with the list of locations potentially exposed to the virus now at more than 400.
NSW Transport says it is reviewing Sydney’s train and bus timetables and listening to feedback after services were slashed to discourage people travelling across Greater Sydney.

Victoria recorded 13 new cases of COVID-19 in the state overnight,with four announced on Monday. All cases are so far linked to current outbreaks except one,which remains under investigation.
Victoria’s COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said two people in the latest outbreak had become accidental super-spreaders after picking up coronavirus brought into the state by rogue NSW removalists. The state now has 15,000 primary close contacts linked to the outbreak,those considered as having the highest risk of developing COVID-19.
Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed the state’s stay-at-home orders,which had been due to end midnight on Tuesday,would be extended.
