Typical contract incentives can include number of games played, goals kicked,best-and-fairest finishes and All-Australian selection.
The Age reported on Friday that Stringer was set to sign a three-year contract extension and it was formally announced by the club on Wednesday.
“I was never going anywhere else. It’s great to get the contract done and I’m grateful to the club for the opportunity,” Stringer said in a statement.
“I love this football club. We’re really building something that’s going to be pretty special to be a part of. ‘Truck’ (coach Ben Rutten) has been terrific for me this season and the boys are as determined as ever to take this club back to where we want to be. We still have a long way to go,but I’m excited to play my part in that as one of the older guys helping to developing the young, exciting group we have.”
Cale Hooker’s future at Essendon remains a discussion point as the season nears its end, with Rutten saying there is “good dialogue” between club and player but no certainty about the veteran being in red and black in 2022.
Hooker, who became a permanent forward late in the pre-seasonafter Michael Hurley’s injury (he had been training as a forward),has kicked 32 goals and played every match this season, combining with young tall Harrison Jones and Peter Wright to great effect.
