A man who attended the New Farm protest said about 40 people were there, with a strong police presence, before it was broken up.

“Compared to last year, the amount of people who have died is minuscule,so why are we having draconian lockdowns?” he said.

The protest followed one earlier in the morning at Parliament House.

“Whilst the[Queensland Police Service] recognises and facilitates lawful protest action, this is not the time for protests and police will take appropriate action to protect the community during the lockdown period,” a police statement read.

On Tuesday,Mr Golleschewski said police would not tolerate those disobeying the state’s health directions and police would increase their presence within the community.

“The community can expect to start seeing things like an RBT-type intersection on our roads where we’ll check to see whether people have the right reasons to be out and about, and when they’re going about their business,” he said.

“The community has nothing to worry about if they fit within those exemptions in those valid purposes for going out and about ... but those people out there, that message is very clear to you. If you know you are doing the wrong thing, and you do not intend to change your behaviour, there are serious consequences.”

Mr Gollschewski said people could face a $1378 fine for contravening a direction and cop a $206 fine for not wearing a mask.

“If you continue not to comply with our directions you face arrest and being put before the court,” he said.
