It means the Socceroos will lose home-ground advantage for the first match of the next round of qualifying,in which they’ll need to finish in Group B’s top two to qualify directly for Qatar 2022.
FA is expected to announce a location for the game this week, most likely in the Middle East.
Wherever it is,Ryan anticipates he’ll be involved, despite recent surgery that has hampered his start at new club Real Sociedad.
The 29-year-old twisted his knee at training last month, ruling him out of next week’s La Liga season opener against Barcelona and putting him on the back foot in his battle for a starting spot with rival gloveman Alex Remiro.
Ryan predicts he’ll be back at peak fitness within the next two weeks, but even that time frame would be cutting it fine with the upcoming international window, and he’d likely go into it without much match practice.
“Part of my motivation to get back is for that Socceroos game as well,” he said. “It’s an important phase coming up for us now,and I’ve set my eye on wanting to be fit for that.
