For all of the deserving plaudits levelled at his higher profile teammates,Fritsch has been every bit as important for Melbourne this season as the team’s star-studded midfield.
In 2014,Christian Petracca’s biggest problem in his draft year was whether he was going to go pick one or two. In the same year,Fritsch was turned away from trials at the Eastern Rangers after one training session.
It was midway through the third quarter as the Demons were beginning to get a handle on the dynamic Western Bulldogs, who had pulled ahead by 19 points.
The momentum was beginning to swing. The stars went to work.
Clayton Oliver roved a Max Gawn tap and gave it to Petracca, who sent it long. It’s a song we’ve heard before.
