A meeting of the national security committee of cabinet will also meet on Wednesday to discuss further details on how to reopen the country’s international borders in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The federal government will start issuing international COVID-19 vaccination certificates from October 1 and is also in talks with other countries to work out which vaccines will be recognised in international travel bubble arrangements.
Thenew app,developed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and called the “VDS-NC Checker”,uses a technology promoted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation called aVisible Digital Seal. It will be able to scan both vaccination and testing certificates.

The app’s description says that it has been “developed in conformity with World Health Organization guidance on digital secure vaccination certificates”.
“If the QR code is authentic,the app displays the most important information from the certificate,including the holder’s biodata and COVID-19 immunisations,” the description states.
“The app displays information to indicate if the QR code is not a VDS-NC,or if it is not authentic.”
