Betts, despite being part-time,would play a significant role as a mentor for the strife-torn forward who was suspended from the Crows (before ultimately being delisted)after he was found alongside Brad Crouch with illicit drugs.
Meanwhile,Fremantle are looking to secure Gold Coast’s pick 19 in a deal that could help them land Jordan Clark from Geelong.
Effectively,it would be a salary dump by the Suns that would also open up a list spot for them.
The Dockers would seek to leverage pick 19 in the dealings with Geelong for Clark. The Cats would then finalise a deal for the contracted 20-year-old,having received a pick inside the top 20 in return.
Melbourne had chased the Suns’ pick also,in exchange for their future first-round pick,if a deal to be involved in the four-way trade for the Western Bulldogs’ pick 17 fell over.
Betts,35,retired at the end of this season as one of the most popular figures in the AFL after 350 games and 640 goals, and was expected to continue in an off-field role at Carlton.
