The man’s breach came after the Gold Coast was singled out by the Premier for its lower-than-hoped vaccination rates.

When the man was finally found on Wednesday,he was fined for failing to comply with a public health direction and ordered into hotel quarantine.

“People undertaking home quarantine must not leave their specified residence for the duration of their quarantine period, and[they must] respond to phone calls and text messages as part of the home check-in program,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

More than 330 home quarantine checks have been conducted since the new system went live on November 15,with the majority of people being fully compliant.

As of 5am on November 23,4827 home quarantine border passes for entry into Queensland from a domestic hotspot had been processed as part of the new automated system.

Earlier this week,Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Gold Coast’s vaccination rates, which hit 72.9 per cent with two doses and 84.1 per cent with one on Tuesday, were much lower than authorities hoped.

“Time is running out here with the vaccines because when we get to that 80 per cent double dose,we are going to see a lot of people coming into Queensland,” she said. “And the best way that we can protect ourselves is to go and get vaccinated.”
