He could have been placed on the club’s inactive list if he did not comply withthe league’s vaccination policy,which mandated that every player needed to be fully vaccinated or have a medical exemption to return to training.
The Kangaroos would only confirm that he was back at training and was eligible to return to the club under the league’s health and safety protocols,and were unable to comment on whether he had the second dose,with the club releasing a short statement.

His return leavesWest Coast’s Jack Darling as the only other listed player yet to meet the deadlinesset out in the league’s vaccination policy,with the Eagles’ board expected to discuss his future on Wednesday. Former Carlton defender Liam Jones and Brisbane Lions midfielder Cam Ellis-Yolmen both retired after choosing not to adhere to the AFL’s vaccination policy. Adelaide’s AFLW player Deni Varnhagen and St Kilda’s Georgia Patrikios also missed this season after choosing not to be vaccinated.
Anderson flew back into Melbourne on the weekend in an indication he was prepared to comply with the guidelines. The availability of the Novavax vaccine from Monday gave the midfielder another vaccine option,following an adverse reaction to the first dose.
He had received a letter of support fromTasmanian integrative medicine specialist Dr Russell Cooper as he liaised with the AFL about a potential return to training however he had always remained in dialogue with the club.
