By the time his son Henry and partner Alice joined him in Melbourne at Christmas,the reserved midfielder,who prefers to let his football do the talking,had shown how valuable his experience would be in developing a promising midfield.
“His ability to teach those players how to use their body to win contested footy has been the biggest win so far,” Clarke said.
It quickly becomes apparent when he speaks that Hewett – who was schooled in Sydney’s famous Bloods culture – would make a low-key,high-impact entry to any club as his team-first ethos shines through.
“I’ve been training hard[to] earn their respect on the track. There are a lot of really good blokes who have made it really easy to feel welcome,” Hewett said. “I’m enjoying it.”

When it’s suggested that his training standards may have lifted the group,he is quick to correct any sense that he’s any different to his teammates.
“They’ve all got intensity. There is a really good competitive feeling at training,nothing untoward but pretty flat out and aggressive,” Hewett said.
