The AFL found that although De Goey did not instigate the scuffle his decision to become involved while in an intoxicated state led to him being ejected from the venue and subject to police action.

It decided that he therefore breached the AFL’s conduct unbecoming rule.

De Goey was sanctioned byNew York’s criminal court after pleading guilty to harassment in the second degree which is a violation, but he did not record a conviction.

The AFL’s legal counsel Andrew Dillon said there were consequences for players if they breached the standards expected.

“All players have a responsibility to uphold the values and expected behaviours of their club and the AFL,” Dillon said.

“Jordan did not live up to these expectations and has since taken responsibility for his actions including accepting this sanction from the AFL.”

Collingwood, who stood down De Goey for close to three months after he was charged, acknowledged the fine and said they considered the matter closed.
