The son of dual Brownlow medallist Peter Moore,Darcy earned All-Australian honours in 2020 and is regarded as a cornerstone for the Magpies as they reset their expectations under McRae and a new-look football department.

Moore,26,has played 105 games with the Magpies since they used selection nine in the 2014 national draft to pick him.

Sydney courted Moore two years ago when he came out of contract and he would have had plenty of suitors if he had wanted to move, but he has stuck with the Magpies where he is vice-captain under veteran skipper Scott Pendlebury.

Moore indicated that the shift in personnel at the club after a tumultuous 2021 had convinced him he wanted to remain at the Magpies.

“With a new coaching group and young squad,we are creating strong foundations for the future – this is exciting to be a part of,” Moore said.

“I understand my role as a leader of this program, and I’m pleased to continue this work for many years to come.”

Collingwood coach McRae said he had “no doubt” Moore could be a future captain of the club after signing his long-term deal.

“I think we have many guys that could step up and take over from ‘Pendles,’” said McRae.

“Darcy’s the vice-captain for a reason because the players have voted for him. So he definitely has captain qualities ahead of him.”

Football manager Graham Wright also said he had no doubt Moore would have aspirations to captain the club his father represented in five grand finals before he moved to Melbourne.

Wright also told 3AW on Saturday night the club had yet to enter contract discussions with De Goey’s management.

“Jordy is really enjoying the club and loving the environment, which obviously goes hand-in-hand hopefully with him playing good footy and those things will look after themselves down the track,” Wright said.

First-year father-son player Nick Daicos said on Thursday that Moore’s teammates were “super joyed” Moore had re-signed.

“We had five other boys that signed during the week,so we are trying to celebrate that,” he said.

Daicos was announced as the round three Rising Star nominee earlier in the week after 26 touches and a goal in Collingwood’s 13-point loss against Geelong last Saturday.

Despite his strong performance,Daicos brushed off suggestions he was already comfortable at AFL level.“Obviously,it’s a big step up so I’m slowly finding my feet,” he said.“It helps when you have great teammates and coaches to help you find your way.”
