Qantas was again the target of customer anger on Friday amid social media reports of cancellations, delayed baggage, and a delayed flight between Dallas and Sydney that left passengers sleeping on the floor of the airport terminal.
Joyce on Friday attempted to deflect some of the blame for the airline’s recent problems on airports. In a radio interview,he pointed out that Sydney and Brisbane airports suffered an IT outage over the Easter long weekend that brought the baggage belt system to a standstill for up to three hours.
“This is an airport service issue ... and that clogged up the system,” Joyce told2GB,adding that the issue was “unbelievably bad and frustrating”.
“We had to make the difficult decisions for flights to leave without bags, otherwise you have a knock-on effect where there’s huge delays and a meltdown.”
Joyce insisted the July school holidays would not be a repeat of the Easter break’s lengthy delays, somethingVirgin chief Jayne Hrdlicka previously told this masthead.
“I’ve got a lot of confidence in the school holidays we’ll see a different outcome,” said.
