Angus Konta,a meteorologist at Weatherzone, said Sunday’s showers were not ideal but would not lead to further severe flooding. “That[rain] should continue to ease over the next few days and hopefully we’ll see weather conditions return to normal later in the week,” he said.
“This week we’ll see a cold front come through on Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll see some more isolated showers, but we shouldn’t see any more than about 10 to 15mm[of rain] on the coast, and about 1 to 5mm inland.
“Of this particular situation, the worst is over for now, thankfully.”
Despite clearer skies, the NSW SES received 70 requests for assistance and conducted five flood rescues on Saturday night. It has so far completed 5120 rapid damage assessments and declared 572 homes uninhabitable.
Jing Gang Liu had to be rescued by boat from his farm in Freemans Reach in last year’s floods, but said the most recent torrent to storm through his property was the most severe flood he’d encountered.
“The floods have come three times this year,” Liu said. “But this time was the worst one,the water was much, much stronger than before.”
