A carded gambling system would require players to pre-load money onto their gaming card,and their betting activities could then be monitored under responsible gambling regulations.
The inquiry was prompted by revelations from60 Minutesand Nine newspapers – which owns this masthead – ofalleged nefarious activity inside Star’s casinos.
After three days of evidence last week,final legal submissions were made on Monday in the last public hearing before the Queensland inquiry makes its recommendations.
Jonathan Horton,counsel assisting the inquiry,and Gareth Beacham,acting for The Star,agreed on the idea of mandatory carded play to promote responsible gambling.

Horton notedNSW continued to look at introducing mandatory carded play in casinos,while Beacham took the idea one step further.
“It should be extended for gambling industry-wide,” Beacham said.
“There may be a situation where somebody goes into a casino and has some difficulty with their gambling based on carded play,and they then may go somewhere else.
