Just like the broader economy, inflation has affected the summit. Originally,it was planned for 100 of the nation’s brightest and best, but the final list shows 142 people getting a golden ticket.
That includes the nation’s six premiers and two chief ministers but not federal MPs such as Chalmers,Anthony Albanese and Nationals leader David Littleproud who will also attend.
One notable non-attendee will be Liberal leader Peter Dutton who has previously said he’ll be avoiding the gathering, calling it a stunt.
Chalmers said he was hopeful the summit’s attendees would solve some of the nation’s biggest challenges.
“While you can’t represent the full diversity of Australia with a room full of people,we’re giving as many individuals a voice through this process as we can,” he said.
The balancing act struck by Chalmers is clear. There’s an equal number of representatives from unions and the business sector. Combined, they account for about half of all attendees.
