Tom Mitchell has yet to inform the Hawks of any trade request, the 2018 Brownlow medallist having been linked to the Magpies, who are chasing a midfield extractor. Mitchell is contracted for next season.
The Hawks are holding their best-and-fairest count on Saturday night, with Mitchell likely waiting for this to be held before clarifying his future through the trade period, beginning on Monday.
Hard-running Demon Jayden Hunt,an unrestricted free agent,is set to join West Coast within days. The Eagles, desperate to again be a force, are also keen on contracted Brisbane Lions midfielder Deven Robertson.
Meanwhile, former North Melbourne David Noble believes the Kangaroos should trade the No.1 overall pick this year, splitting it in the hope of enhancing their rebuild.
The Kangaroos have the top pick for a second straight season, having finished last in a year when Noble was sacked.
While they have the top pick, the consensus best player in the draft is Will Ashcroft, who will head to Brisbane as a father-son,with the Lions to match any bid for him.
“I’ve always been an advocate for the split. I think that the picks are a bit overvalued to be honest at times, the North pick this year,I would absolutely split it,100 per cent,” Noble said on AFL trade radio.
“The reason being, you’re not going to get the best kid in the country,Ashcroft, you’re not getting No.1. The way I look at it,you’ve got pick two,so split pick two and take as many picks as you can.”
